Fencing by Golde

ACOUSTIC TIMBER FENCE

GOLDE standard specification (for residential acoustic fence)

  • Height: approximately 2.4 m to 3.0 m (depending on noise source, distance, elevation)
  • Posts: treated timber or galvanised steel, deeper embedment/foundations than      standard fence.
  • Rails: e.g., 3 rails of treated pine (or more if height exceeds 2 m) — example: rails 75×50 mm treated pine for a timber-acoustic fence.
  • Boards or Palings: vertical treated pine boards butted together (no gaps), typically heavier boards than standard fence. “heavy acoustic” 15 kg/m².
  • Sealing: Acoustic seal at panels/joints and at bottom (to prevent sound egress) as required in specification.
  • Material durability: Treated timber, corrosion-protected steel, etc so the acoustic performance is maintained over life.
  • Consideration of drainage, maintenance, gaps, vegetation etc: e.g., fences shouldn’t impede drainage, avoid ponding, must avoid gaps underneath etc

STOCK FARM FENCE

  •    Star pickets spaced every 2.5 m (so ~20 spaces over 50 m, ~22 pickets including start/end).
  • End/strainer posts at each end of run, and at any change of direction, ~every ~100 m for longer runs (not needed for just 50 m aside from ends).
  • Height of fence: 1.8 m (mesh height).
  • Top barbed wire (or top plain wire if preferred) above mesh.
  • Mesh fixed to star pickets, tie-wired every ~300 mm down the picket.
  • Bottom of mesh ~50–70 mm off the ground (or optionally buried ~100 mm if you want dig-proof).
  • Gate post and gate excluded in the 50 m run but leave space if required.

KOALA PROOF FENCE

Basic standards for a Koala proof fence:

  • The fence must be both dog-proof and koala-proof.
  • Fencing must be a minimum 1.8 m high in the context of koalas (and higher when also dog-proofing 2.4m high) where an infrastructure action is being assessed.
  • There must be a minimum 50 cm wide scratch panel (on the outside of the fence) that prevents koalas climbing over.
  • It must be positioned 3 m clear of any retained trees or overhanging branches that koalas could use to bypass the barrier.
  • There must be a permanently funded maintenance plan / monitoring arrangement in perpetuity.

Koala‑Sensitive Design Guidelines Version 2 (Queensland Dept. of Environment & Science):

  • A summary of “koala exclusion fencing” (i.e., fencing that prevents koalas entering areas where they are at risk).
  • For example, fencing using metal sheet, timber without gaps, or chain-wire plus a “floppy top” or 600 mm exclusion element on top if using chain wire.
  • The top of the ‘unclimbable’ section of the fence is to be at least 1.5 m  from the ground in one example.

STANDARD CHAINMAIL FENCE

Fencing comes in various sizes and can be custom made to suit your needs and / or council requirements, please contact us for further details
